Flag is accompanied by a special sign that only award winners can display
The King’s Award flag is now flying high at Michael Smith Switchgear’s headquarters in Leicester.
MSSL was awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise in May - recognising the company's work in sustainable development over recent years.
The flag is accompanied by a special sign that only businesses who have won the award can display.
Both were installed at the factory in Leicester soon after Operations and Finance Director, Emily Smith, was a guest at a Windsor Castle reception held for recipients.
Managing Director, Sean Smith, said: “Recognising our team’s efforts has always been an important part of this award, now every time any of us arrive at work we’re reminded of what we have achieved together.
“We’re proud to be King’s Award recipients and now we can fly the flag so everyone can see just how proud we are of our sustainability journey.”
MSSL is one of 197 organisations to be recognised with the UK’s most prestigious business award.
The King’s Awards for Enterprise recognises outstanding UK businesses.
Now in its 59th year, the Award celebrates achievement in four categories: innovation, international trade, sustainable development, and promoting opportunity through social mobility.
MSSL is one of only 27 businesses to be honoured in the sustainable development category this year.
MSSL's achievement was covered in a number of media titles including Electrical Times, Leicester Mercury, and the King's Award for Enterprise Magazine.
It comes after a decade of work on embedding sustainability at the heart of operations.
The King’s Award recognition comes as Michael Smith Switchgear marks its 40th anniversary.
Founded in 1985, MSSL has gone from a small yard behind a Leicester terrace to a purpose-built site that sets the standard for sustainable manufacturing.
