BEAMA publishes latest from the BEAMA Low Voltage Switchboard technical committee.
MSSL has helped shape BEAMA’s new guidance on ‘Specifying a low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assembly’, alongside major industry experts from the BEAMA Low Voltage Switchboard technical committee.
MSSL brings expertise from its carbon‑neutral Leicester base, where it designs and manufactures bespoke LV switchboards in line with BS EN IEC 61439‑2.
As members of the BEAMA low-voltage switchboard technical committee, MSSL brings knowledge of how assemblies are specified and delivered on complex UK projects.
BEAMA’s industry guide on specifying an assembly, supports specifiers and end users who need guidance when setting out requirements for assemblies and choosing manufacturers.
It builds on existing guidance to verification in line with BS EN IEC 61439-2 and BEAMA’s work on the risks of non-compliance safety campaign. The guide brings standards and documents together into a single, accessible reference focused on the specification stage.
Managing Director Sean Smith has pushed the importance of conformity to BS EN IEC 61439‑2 for several years through his BEAMA roles and published articles with the aim of making assembly standards conformance more accessible to specifiers, engineers and manufacturers.
Sean is an active member in BEAMA, serving as a Board member and chairing the management committee for the Low Voltage Switchboards and Busbar Systems Product Group.
His focus on making compliance and quality standards accessible for engineers is strengthening skills and safety across the sector.
“Specifying and designing an assembly is where you set the foundations for safe, reliable power,” said Sean.
“This guide is about giving specifiers, electrical system designers and purchasers a clear, consistent way to ask for what they need, in line with the standards and good practice expected from the industry.”
The way in which an assembly is specified, directly affects safety, conformance and performance throughout its lifecycle.

Clear guidance from industry bodies helps ensure responsibilities are understood and technical requirements are correctly stated - reducing the likelihood of non‑compliant assemblies entering service.
