MSSL apprentices named in MP Liz Kendall's East Midlands Chamber interview.
Leicester West MP Liz Kendall singled out MSSL's apprentices - calling them young people "learning the skills of the future."
The Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology made the comment in the April 2026 issue of Business Network, the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce magazine.
In the feature, Government Priority is to Bring Stability and Growth, she was asked what she was most proud of as a minister and MP and named the apprentices she met at Michael Smith Switchgear alongside her work co-chairing the Child Poverty Taskforce.
Liz Kendall has visited MSSL's Leicester site on multiple occasions.
Her first visit earlier in 2025 coincided with MSSL being recognised with the King's Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development - national recognition of the company's industry-leading approach to responsible manufacturing.
She returned in autumn 2025 to film content for the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool, meeting the company's Leicester College apprentices, touring the facilities, and hearing first-hand about their training and career ambitions.

Managing Director Sean Smith said: "Apprenticeships are central to the future of LV switchgear manufacturing.
“The skills shortage in our sector is real, and the only sustainable answer is to grow our own talent.
“To have that work recognised at the highest level, both through the King's Award and now in this interview, reinforces the importance of investing in the next generation."
Investment in its people sits at the core of MSSL's strategy - with eight apprentices currently in training and the wider team supported through ongoing professional development.
