MSSL recognised by the UK Government's Business Climate Hub for sustainable achievements.

MSSL has been recognised as a UK Business Climate Hub success story after cutting its carbon emissions by more than 60% while continuing to grow.

The Leicester-based LV switchgear manufacturer has been featured as a case study on the UK Business Climate Hub, to demonstrate how manufacturers can reduce energy cost without slowing growth.

The Hub, backed by the UK Government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), works with businesses across the UK to accelerate practical action on climate.

MSSL’s case study features more than a decade of sustained investment in sustainability that has delivered measurable results for the business as well as the environment.

Managing Director Sean Smith: “As a small manufacturing business I am proud we can lead the way for other SMEs.

“MSSL was the first UK switchgear manufacturer to become carbon neutral in 2022, and our experience shows that net zero and growth are not in conflict."

MSSL's sustainability programme has reduced carbon emissions by more than 60% since 2018 - putting the business seven years ahead of Make UK's Net Zero roadmap for manufacturers.

A 284-panel solar installation on the factory roof now generates approximately 97,000kWh annually, saving more than £20,000 per year in energy costs.

MSSL has also reduced raw material usage within its manufacturing process by 25% and is now looking at a rainwater storage system and green roof to further its environmental initiatives.

This recognition comes nearly a year after receiving the highest stamp of quality the King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development - one of only 27 businesses recognised in the category in 2025.

MSSL is also a signatory of BEAMA's 2050 Connected Climate Commitment and plays an active role in helping the wider electrical manufacturing sector navigate the transition to net zero.

Operations and Finance Director Emily Bliss said: “As a small manufacturing business I am proud we can lead the way for other SMEs. MSSL was the first UK switchgear manufacturer to become carbon neutral in 2022.”
