Opportunity to accelerate growth alongside Swedish tech giant
Michael Smith Switchgear will continue its ambitious growth plans after being acquired by one of Northern Europe’s leading tech groups.
The Leicester-based supplier of customised low-voltage switchgear solutions is the tenth UK business to be bought by Lagercrantz Group AB in its UK network and the first from the UK within its Electrify Division.
“We are delighted to be joining Lagercrantz and embarking on the next phase of our company’s development with a long-term and stable owner who shares our values and ambitions,” said managing director Sean Smith.
MSSL was founded in 1985 and has developed a reputation for its technical expertise, high quality standards, and sustainability. The company has annual revenues of around £8million and employs more than 50 people from its base on the Braunstone Frith Industrial Estate.
It last year received the King’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development after reducing carbon emissions by more than 60% over just seven years. More recently, MSSL won Environmental Product of the Year at the Data Centre World Awards in recognition of R&D work on its LV switchgear products.
The MSSL management team, of Sean Smith and Emily Smith, will continue to lead the company within the Electrify division of the Lagercrantz Group.
Emily Smith, Operations and Finance Director, said: “We will keep on developing the approach that has made MSSL such a success - with the additional benefit of Lagercrantz’s support. It’s a great opportunity for our company, team, suppliers, and clients to continue growing together.”
