Gold standard workplace safety achieved by HR and Health & Safety Manager at MSSL
MSSL’s HR and Health & Safety Manager Vanessa has passed the NEBOSH National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
The qualification is widely seen as the gold standard in workplace safety and is recognised as a demanding programme with a rigorous final exam.
To achieve it, she completed 66 taught hours and around 40 hours of private study alongside their day‑to‑day responsibilities.
The course covers UK health and safety law, structured risk assessment and incident investigation. Assessment includes a written examination and a detailed workplace‑based risk assessment project, both of which must be passed to gain the certificate.
Finance and Operations Director Emily Bliss said: “This is a really big personal achievement. Vanessa has put a lot of time and effort into this, and we’re very proud of what she’s done.
“This qualification will make a real difference to how we support our people day to day.”
The NEBOSH National Certificate is awarded by the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health, the UK’s leading independent body for health and safety qualifications.
It equips holders to:
By supporting this qualification, MSSL is investing directly in specialist skills that strengthen its in‑house health and safety expertise and help upskill the wider team.
This qualification supports MSSL’s ISO 45001 certification, the international standard for managing workplace risk and RoSPA Gold Award, held for eight consecutive years, reflecting a long‑term focus on health and safety performance.
MSSL’s wider investment in skills remains central to its strategy. The business currently has eight apprentices in the team, after five new apprentices joined this year through its partnership with Leicester College, helping to build much‑needed electrical engineering skills for UK manufacturing.
