Emily Bliss, Operations and Finance Director, showcased MSSL’s sustainability expertise at an ICAEW conference in London.
MSSL’s Operations and Finance Director was invited to showcase her sustainability expertise at one of the UK’s leading finance and business conferences.
Emily Bliss spoke on the ICAEW Sustainability for Business Conference panel, held at Chartered Accounts’ Hall in London.
Now in its third year, the event brought together finance professionals and business leaders from across the UK to explore how sustainability drives growth and resilience.
Emily was invited to speak on the back of MSSL's long-standing sustainability record - work that earned the business the King's Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development in 2025.
“Sustainability doesn't have to cost the earth,” she said. "It should start by opening up conversations with your supply chain and your teams and you’ll be surprised how much you can achieve without spending money.”
Emily joined a panel chaired by Head of Business at ICAEW Simon Gray, alongside Julian Russell from Leonardo Helicopters, on how sustainable thinking can create a more resilient and valuable company.
A clear message emerged from the conference: sustainability must be built into business strategy. When it’s woven into everyday decision-making, it drives growth, reduces risk, and creates long-term value.
Emily drew on MSSL's own experience in the panel discussion, saying: "We have invested significant time, money and energy into our sustainability efforts over the past few years.
“It has facilitated real growth and resilience in our business - but sometimes it's the quick wins that make the biggest difference."
Since 2018, MSSL has more than halved its carbon emissions per employee, while growing revenue by 66% and its workforce by 37%.
MSSL achieved Carbon Neutral status and tracks full Scope 1-3 emissions, currently running 7 years ahead of the Make UK Net Zero roadmap for manufacturers.
All progress was recognised when MSSL received the King's Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development - one of only 27 UK businesses honoured in the category.
